  1. I believe i would give myself a 3. I did much better compared to the last game, I had more confidence, covered my teammates better which lead me to clearing more balls. I was determined to get every ball, ran to get the throw-in after the ball went out. Took the initiative to take the goal kicks in the second half. I failed to save a corner again and crosses still coming in the opponent's right side resulted in the low rating. I think I did applied what i learn in training, about covering and watching your man when defending. I believe coach felt that my performance have improved since I wasn't really called on to mark my man as I did it better this match.

As always, fitness is a problem. You see players for the first 10 mins all pumped up, going for every tackle, running to cover, but after that those felt like dying. Furthermore, this lead to another problem. Some of the defenders went up to attack at times, if they are successful in coming back to defend, it is ok, however, many times, they failed to return back in time, leaving a hole in the defence. It was much worse in the second half when our centre backs were so exhausted that they were not even covering. In between our midfield and defence, we can literally say there were over 20 metres of space for them to exploit. They didn't score any goals from this flaw, all because they were trying to make us humiliated.

While I believe the defense had better communication, the midfield did drop back lots of times to defend, we could really make use of our opportunities to attack more. In one El Clasico last year, Real Madrid did well in pressuring Barcelona, and in the end they had more chances to try to score. Yet Barcelona won that much despite the fact of having only half that amount of chances because they could make use of their opportunities. They netted in almost every shot they took.

I think I did my best in really communicating to my teammates to watch their man, to cover me when i am going for a tackle, to ask the rest of the team to shift or drop back. However, what's the point of me shouting for the team to return to their rightful duty at that point in time if they are not willing to. There was a few instances when I was shouting for the defensive midfielders to drop back, yet they didn't. Either they were deaf or really tired, of really see no point in continue fighting for the battle.

Our passing is really bad and it may also be a result of poor fitness. Manchester United actually plays intense small area possession games. This helps to improve their passing and at the same time help to improve fitness. something we could try out.

No one, yet I would like to thank Jia Le for continue moving into space and asking for the ball even when the odds were against us. It was better than people who weren't asking or worse, not looking at the ball at all

  2. 1) I would rate myself 4.8 for the first half and 3.8 for the second. Starting as a keeper, I started to gain more confidence and kept my cool for 10 mins. Even after we conceded our first goal, I didn't let the opponent's remarks get into my head. However, I was to blame for 2 of the goals we conceded. The first goal was a cross sent straight at me as Ryan failed to close him down quick enough. I should have tipped it away from goal instead of back across goal. This led to Bryan unable to challenge for the ball quick enough. During the second half, I felt extremely frustrated as being an attacking midfielder, I couldn't get the ball to my feet often. Most of the time I was either defending or chasing for stray long balls. I find this a major problem for us as we can never keep possession if we cannot get the ball to our feet.

    2) I've learnt that mental strength and preparation is very important for every match. We might come across such teams next year who doesn't give any respect for their opponents. However, we need to keep our heads high and have some pride. To do so, we need to prepare ourselves both physically but more importantly mentally. It is important to pick yourself up quickly every time you concede a goal because what's conceded cannot be saved anymore. But we can prevent the next from happening if we work hard and fight for one another.

    3) In my honest opinion, the team did better than the previous game. We were opening up and challenging for the ball more often, though constantly cut out since our opponents were way more skilled than us.

    4) As vice-captain, I have to constantly keep my cool and not be so hot-headed all the time. I apologise to Matthias for using a vulgarity at you during the match. I believe there are much better ways in communicating our thoughts and comments to the team.

    5) Challenging for goalkicks. 95% of the goalkicks I took in the first half were unchallenged by both teams. It is our initiative to challenge for our possession and not leave the ball to our opponents. Move into space, watch the ball and go for the first ball.

    6) I don't think anyone would be worthy of this award though I would like to commend Niklaus for his effort he put into the defence. We could feel the impact he brought in the second half being a strong physical presence and a quick coverer.

  3. 1. I would rate myself a 2. I do not think that I have helped the team in anyway other than crossing the ball twice. I think the only thing I did well today was to attack on occasion. And i feel that i applied a bit of what i learnt in training.

    2. I learnt that we were not being respected as opponents. Our opponents did not respect us and were actually laughing at us. So for us to be respected, we have to first respect ourselves, then can we play better and be respected.

    3. No. I do not think the team did well today at all. Though the scoreline was by far the best we have ever had, i feel that we did not put in our 100% and i think that is why we lost.

    4. I think i can help the team by fighting even harder in the last game and giving my 110% to ensure that my team does not go down the way it did in this match. If i do this, it might boost the morale of the team up so that they will also fight even harder.

    5. The team can take training more seriously and also do personal fitness training. They can improve on their fitness at home during their free time and during training they can work on their ball work and skills.

    6. I think the man of the match is darius as i think he is the only one that has maintained his standard throughout all the matches and that is why i would vote him as the man of the match.

  4. I would rate myself a 4 for the game as I feel that as much as I have ranted at others' performance, I have subconsciously been taking note of my own actions in the game, and I am not pleased with what I have been doing. I am a typical example of all talk, no action, scolding others for making certain mistakes yet committing the same mistakes throughout. However, I do feel I've done well covering, and defended more aggressively, though I should be doing better in the air. I made a few good blocks, and read the game fairly well. But after I moved into midfield, my performance was just terrible. As a CDM I should be closing players down, stopping the shots instead of being too focused on attack. I played more as a CAM even when coach told me to stay in CDM. After I pushed up in attack, I was too ill-disciplined to drop back into defense and would have led to many more goals if our opponents actually played seriously.

Having moved form CB to CDM in one game, I've learnt that midfielders really need strong stamina. I may have shouted at Ethan and Pides for getting tired in 10mins, but I was no better. My stamina was no where near good, and I ended up walking back to defend when we lost possession. I've also learnt that I am a great influence to the team's morale, and I should always keep my emotions in check and always speak to my team in a positive manner. I apologize for the harsh words I've said to my team, mainly to Ethan, Pides, Matthew, Matthias and a few others.

We have a lot to work on in terms of our fitness and aggression, and the best way to help is to have more physical training sessions, and occasional friendlies with physically stronger opponents. As long as we have the passion and desire to win, we will push ourselves hard and soon our training will bear its fruits.

There are many things we can do better in. When we have possession of the ball, we have to automatically open up and provide the support. Just because we're defending for majority of the match, that doesn't mean we can use that as an excuse. This may be because of lack of practice, and thus we can do more of such practices during training or during free time. During goalkicks too, when the kick is made, our midfielders should always be there to challenge the opponent or to receive the ball. We play with 5 in midfield, but when a goalkick is taken our midfielders are missing. We know exactly how far Jia Le can kick, so we have to stay in range and always be prepared to receive the ball.

My MOTM is ODS, he was very aggressive in challenges and was constantly alert to unmarked players. He was very vocal in the game, and very decisive. He doesn't hesitate to go in to challenge the player, and when he does he either gets beaten but his cover clears the ball, or he wins the challenge. His aggression is one I am training to get, and he is (to me) a role model for all players.

  5. From today's match, I learnt that we must keep our cool and our morale up, not letting the opponents' comments get to our heads. From my perspective as a sub, I felt that the team's performance slowly got worse as the opponents began to laugh at every mistake we made. Also, I have learnt that to be respected, we must first respect ourselves.

Personally, I do not think that the team did well today. It seems that the amount of effort the team has put in today is not their 100%, but on the bright side, from the previous games I've watched, the team has improved in the aspect of challenging for the ball.

I could try to communicate with my defenders more often (as a keeper) so as to reduce the amount of space the enemy can get and close up the hole in the defence.

The team really needs to improve their fitness, so I would suggest more runs and fitness trainings as a team.

I feel that the MOTM is Jia Le, as he never let the opponent's comments get to his head and constantly asked for the ball even in the final few minutes of the match.

  6. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating

I would rate myself a 6 as I tried to cover and also challenge the player with the ball more though I was not very aggressive and was sometimes scared of the player during 50/50 challenges. I think I should track back more instead of staying too far up and I should try to win the goal kicks more. I could not apply some of the passing drills as I did not get the ball at all. I did try to cover my teammates when they go for the challenge.

    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?

I have learned that the difference between us and the other team is the amount of space we get. We get much lesser space than the opponent. Whenever we get the ball, we barely have a few second to make a decision before the opponent closes us down. On the other hand, when the opponents get the ball, they have alot of time to decide what they want to do.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?

I think the team did okay considering it was our best result. We also at least tried to challenge for the ball sometimes.

    4. How can you help the team to improve?

I think I should communicate more with the other attackers as it gives an idea of where you are so that they will know where to pass to instead of just passing in space with nobody near it.

    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?

I think the team should close down the opponents more as they were alot of space giving them alot of time to think about what they should do or even give them the option to shoot.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection

I think ODS is the MOTM. He closed down the opponents rather quickly not giving them many options which led them to losing the balls which ODS then kicked the ball up the right flank allowing Ryan to counterattack down the wing. He also made many vital tackles which kept us in the game.

  7. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating
i.e. Again, I would rate myself a 1. I did not push myself to do harder even though I was exhausted and did not bother to chase for the ball.
    What I do well today?
A bit better(agressive) than previous match against PSB.
    What could have been better?
I could have pushed myself further to keep going on, giving firm passes and winning headers.
Did I apply what I have learned in training?
I did not apply what I have learnt during training as I kept on focusing on winning the balls and playing it upfront randomly.
    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
I learnt that communication really helps as I can remember very clearly that during one point, I did not communicate with ODS and we collided and got confused and the opponent won the ball.
    3. Do you think the team did well today?
I think that the team did not do very well today but at least, we did way better than previous game :)
    4. How can you help the team to improve?
I recently thought of something, people can get their morale boosted when their team had scored a goal or dribble successfully or had a great shot on goal, so I think if I can do one of these, I believe that it can help boost the team in a way which they will also think that they can do it.
    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
Work hard, move, communicate as a team. Encourage them, not just shout at them but push them on.
    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
For me, this match, I have 1 Motm, Darius Low. He kept on non-stop motativing me all the way through out the whole match. Which is very good as a cpt and commendable.

  8. 1) I would rate my performance as 3, as though I conceded a few goals, I wasn't satisfied with myself as i was not confident with the ball and I was not aggressive enough to challenge for the ball.

    2) I learnt that we still lack communication between team-mates, including myself, and our fitness is quite as within a few minutes of the match, our players are already starting to walk, and also to ignore what our opponents say about to keep our head high even after being humiliated by the opponents.

    3) I don't think our team did well at all, as after the match, less than of the half of the team could confidently say that they had put in their 100% effort in the match.

    4) I think I could help my team by communicating with my defenders so we could close up the hole in the defence as I only spoke little during the match.

    5) I think we could improve on our fitness, tactics and techniques, though I saw that our challenging for the ball had improved.

    6) I think the MOTM is Captain, Darius Low, as he gave his all during the whole match, ran up and down the field to help attack and defend, and he also didn't stop motivating us to play better.

  9. 2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
i learned that the team needs to communicate more with each other so as to obtain proper flow of the game. Observe each other and try to make a good decision. By doing this there would be more passing so as to open up the defence of the opposite team.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?
i don't think they did well but are improving compared to the previous few matches hopefully there will be more commnication. During training sometimes they are communicating. But compared to the match there is fewer words mouthed during the match.

    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
i think the team needs to have more confidence with each other. It is quite clear the team is not bonded as there
is not much confidence. With the confidence we can improve the flow of the game. Trusting the other teamate instead of hesistating then losing the ball.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
Ethan i guess ._. he performed well in terms of defending trying to support the left and the right back. He did a good defending job compared to others. There was once bryan was beat he cmae back and supported him obtaining the ball from the opponent

    ReplyDelete
  10. 1) I cannot rate myself since I did not play.

    2) As a spectator I learned that our team needs to communicate and trust in each other more as soccer is a team sport. Also our passing is not precise, either that or the person receiving the ball is not doing a good job.

    3) I think overall we did not do well. We should learn to make the right decision, who to pass to, what is the next step. Besides that there was less cooperation as I noticed everyone was just frustrated because of the loss.

    4) I think I can help by playing harder in the next match, despite the scores. I will also try to not let the team down.

    5) We can work on our passing and receiving. Also the best and help the weakest to catch up.

    6) I think the man of the match is Ethan, he defended well, not leaving any space. Although he made a few mistakes he could correct them and continue playing well.

  11. 1, at the very best. For the first, I as CDM, had to go in for tackles, I rarely did go in, but when I did they were all soft, weak, or useless, and at best, I probably made only made 2 tackles of use, and injuring myself in 1 of them in the process. I also feel that during the match, I was more of a hinderance than help, with the CBs (and Pides) having to go in and cover me as well. Honestly, my fitness wasn't at the level I have had during most times this year. I was so weak, that the referee, himself had to get me out, after I almost vomited in match (I think it must have had been rather visible for ref to realise). I don't think anything went right during the match, and I honestly, judging my play, don't even deserve being considered for play for tomorrow's match. However, I feel that it could be due to the fact I was playing in CDM, a position I wasn't too sure about playing as I was usually CB. That is probably the thing which affected my game that bad and I would definitely want to be back at CB.

I learnt that, we should have had communicated more during a match, thus preventing more clashes.

I feel that we defended (The defence itself) well and especially during the 2nd half, (and much of the first) our defense was hard to break down.

I think that we should be quicker to switch from attack to defense vice-versa, as at the start of the match, the probably only had like, 7 players, yet as we were slow to counter-attack, they would often get the ball back, and we would not be able to take a shot.

What I could do was to definitely improve my fitness, and I could speak more to communicate.

We could, as always suggested, go jogging together one day, work on passing, counter-attacking QUICKLY, getting more confident with the ball.

I feel our MOTM will definitely be ODS. He helped alot, making crucial tackles, aiding attack with good passes and his never-give-up attitude and he also kept running, not tiring.

    i.e.
2.Nearing the end of the 1st half I was slide tackled by a opposition and I could'nt play well at all.I was exhausted and my injured leg was in pain.

    What I do well today?
I think I covered Bryan quite will although after i got exhausted I could not track back that much and as fast as i could.Other than this i feel that i didnt do much other things that was good for the team.
    What could have been better?
I could have told the coach about my injury instead of being a burden to the team.If i could not attack or defend or cover why should i even stay on the pitch.
Did I apply what I have learned in training?
No,I wasn't able to apply what I learnt in traiing due to my exhaustion and low concentration level.Honestly I could'nt even remember the things that I learn while in the match.
    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
As usual,I know that my fitness level is not up to standard and can be improved. And i have to be able to be more focus on the match itself.
    3. Do you think the team did well today?
    ._.
    4. How can you help the team to improve?
Individually we can help to team by 1)improving our fitness
2)Improving our basic skills such as simple passing, tacking, etc.
    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
As I said last time,I think that we should let the first 11 have more friendies and be able to bond together.
    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection.
ODS is the MOTM for me.He was focused and managed to make some crucial tackles that lessen the score-line.He is one of the only few that was really playing the game.

  13. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating
I rate myself a 1. First of all i was late for the match and as a result had to miss the first half of the match. That is just unacceptable. Especially when there is potential to reduce the goal count by playing my part in the defense.
    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
As a spectator, i learnt loads. Firstly, we all definitely need to be more active. ALL of us have to be on our toes during the games and fight it all out to maintain possession of the ball, but what i saw was just ball watching, half hearted attacks and defense. It was all disappointing. As a player, i think we need to be more agressive. For a player of the opposing team to go past 4 of our defenders that easily is totally unacceptable.
    3. Do you think the team did well today?
No i did not. In fact we didn't even do ok. We need to get our act together and commit ALL of our strength and efforts to the game.
    4. How can you help the team to improve?
I reckon we need to increase the rigor in the team. Losing this badly is unacceptable especially to a team that was so disorientated.
    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
I think we all need to have the commitment to really put in our 101% into the matches. To do pass what we are able to do to improve ourselves and ultimately fight for our first win.
    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
I reckon there isnt a man of the match. The performance was just not good at all.

  14. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating.

    - Rating: 3/10
    - Strengths (What I did well): Honestly...I can only say that I have done well in cheering the team to a moderately high extent as a spectator, and as a spectator, I cannot be proud to say that I have done well enough to contribute sufficiently to the team.
    - Weaknesses (What could have been better):
---- My mentality was weak (Mental Preparation was visibly evident from my playing to be significantly lacking), resulting in most of the major flaws committed in the match.
---- I was not relaxed enough to keep myself focused; my negative emotional state by the time I went in resulted in me being distracted often, and making lots of incorrect decisions.
---- I did not keep myself aware of the communication between players for the entire ten to fifteen minutes I played. For example, I did went up away from my position to challenge for an incoming high ball which was what coach had told us before; however, I forgot to make it known to other defenders like Darius of that move I made, thus leading to a conceded space behind me after the lost in challenge.
---- Most importantly, I lost coordination of basic techniques because of my drop in confidence minutes I went in, to the point that in one specific instance, I missed in clearing the ball when it was bouncing only about a metre above right in front of me, just due to fake pressure by the left opponent winger. I also didn't make the decision to turn but instead tried to get the ball back from behind me in the wrong position.
    - Application: The only application that I can say to have done is to have marked the players as I should; other than that, I have to be honest that I did not keep myself aware of applying what I have learnt at all, because of poor mentality, which I think I definitely have to apologise for.

    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?

    - I think the most significant takeaway for the match will be to learn to heighten our levels in mental preparation – inadequate levels of mental preparation is probably what caused most of us to lose our confidence and affect our mood after a certain number of conceded goals.
    - For this game particular, I think I further realised the importance of keeping focused and being alert in what I do, as based on what is happening. As a defender, being distracted for just for a short moment in time can allow sufficient time for the opponent to make his move.
    - Lastly, I learnt that I'll have keep in mind the skills I plan to apply when I go for the matches.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?

    - In terms of most parts of our teamwork, it would probably only be rather sarcastic to say that we did.
    - As a team, we did not organise ourselves well, with most moving strategies that we learnt during training not being seen to be used.

    4. How can you help the team to improve?

    - I'll have to play my part in the team, considering the fact that I probably did not contribute much to the team during this game.
    - I have to learn from my mistakes; some of the mistakes are ones I have repeated for quite some time.
    - I have to train myself with the mentality to take away something I can apply from every training session.
    - I can help to suggest ideas for training what we are weak at after the matches.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?

    - The team must make efforts to train on their own – fitness, ball work and teamwork should all be aspects that can be trained.
    - The team must learn how to work together using what has been taught in training; every training should be an opportunity for everyone to learn to work together.
    - Everyone must be included in the training, with no one left out, and should participate properly with the right attitude; no training should just be for the sake of pure attendance for the session.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection

    - Overall, there is no specific man of the match, although I feel that earlier parts of the match can prove players such as Jia Le, Darius and ODS and Ethan to be worthy enough for it, because of their commitment in the game.
    - During the last minutes of match, some may be giving their best during that point of time, but definitely no one already was in the mental state to play as well as they could.

    7. Summary and Goals:

To sum up, I feel very dissatisfied with my performance in the last two matches. There have been much mistakes which I could have avoided in my playing, but they still appeared in these recent matches I have played in. For this set reflections, though I still have many flaws, I would like to set for my aims in improving these flaws little by little to move forward. In my next opportunity to play, I would just like to see at least the following improvements:
    1) An 80% passing rate.
    2) At least 60% success rate in tackling for the ball as a defender.
    3) An honest rating of at least 6/10 for the respective reflection for that opportunity.

This is my personal aim, listed so as to push myself to keep an idea of what I want to achieve for the next available opportunity. Though I would definitely not be able to guarantee all of these to what I have written, as they may be some situations in the match which prevent me from doing so, I will try my best in achieving what I have set as closely as possible; to achieve this, I would try to constantly remind myself of good mentality.

  16. 1. I'd give myself a 6. I did not do as well as I expected to, as I did not really get many chances with the ball, and most of the chances I had on goal was either from a rebound by the keeper or receiving the ball only when a defender is upon me.
    2. I'd have to be quicker on my feet, and to be more aggressive, as I was playing with people who are not even in the same division as me, and it would be hard for me if I do not start working on my aggression, and it would also give me an advantage against others in my age as well.
    3. Yes, as I believe that our team was finally in full form and that was our full strength, but it was not entirely our fault since this league was an open league, and is equivalent as a youth club team playing against a national team's first eleven.
    4. I could have helped the team to improve by staying away from the defender as effectively as possible as it would further lower the chances of getting passes intercepted, and hence indirectly increasing the chances for a goal.
    5. It would be better if the midfielders were to work on their defense as well as I am usually the one at the most front, and it would be helpful if I receive a proper pass from the midfield, and not anticipating for the ball most of the time.
    6. I would choose Ding Shan as he was a very fast defender, and he also made a line clearance once. Even though he could not head the ball, he jumped very high to clear the ball with his feet instead, which is not a foul, as compared to what some of us do.
