  1. 1. Comment on your individual performance

I have only played for 30 seconds in the game but iv tried hard to push for the offense for the team to at least have 1 goal during injury time.

    2. What have you learnt?

I have learnt that everytime u lose the ball, you should chase it down from where you lost it. Covering your teammate is also important as you will have to cover for their mistakes.

    3. Comment on the team's performance

The performance was bad. Especially in the defense as people did not cover each other and close down the strikers fast enough so they could not have any chance to take shots. Most of the goals were also simple mistakes such as not properly controlling the ball and weak passes that are easily intercepted by the opponent.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?

I can improve on my ball control so such mistakes like today would not be repeated.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?

I think the team should work more on the passing and moving drills as we do not have enough passes throughout the game and the ones that we made are usually intercepted.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?

Adil would be the man of the match today as he ran up and down trying to help in the defense and tracked back up to the attack to help in the attack.

  2. 1. Comment on your individual performance
During my short time on the field, I find that although I did try to put in my best effort, I still could not perform as well as I hoped. The opponents were constantly rushing down the sidelines and I find it tough to keep up with their speed and agility.

    2. What have you learnt?
When defending, communication is very important. Defensive players must learn to cover for each other and hence only one player should be pressuring the opponent with the ball at one time. Tackling has to also be done with precision as a wrong move could be a window of opportunity for the opponents.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
The team's overall performance was sadly disappointing as I feel that the players have not play up to their potential. The defense was in a mess and the attacks are not well supported. We could have done better as a team.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
Active feedbacks should be given and communicating during the match can be immensely helpful for the organization of the team's offense and defense.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
The team should be more encouraging towards each other. The spirit that was in last year's team is lacking this year. I find that players are not communicating as much, hence causing the unorganized form of today's team. Players should ask for the ball during the attack and the goalkeeper or the defensive players should take the initiative to organize the defense.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
Although Darius did make a good effort in offering encouragements to the players and supporting the offense and the defense, I find that most players are lacking the fighting mentality they had previously. The team's performance is disappointing letdown.

When i went on as a sub in the last few minutes,i felt that I did quite well.?There was a chance where I had space and i tried to take a shot but it missed.
    2. What have you learnt
I learnt that we need to learn how to not let the score affect our effort and our spirit.
    3. Comment on the team's performance
Our midfield and defense were not working together. Many a times we we challenge for the same ball, marking the same person, etc. These things can be solved by proper communication.
    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I can try to keep run through out the game, playing aggresively.
    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
We need more matches where we win. With the winning momentum I am sure that we will definitely be more hungry for goals and wins.
    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I think today there wasnt anyone who was standing out from the rest.We all played equally bad and each of us made our own individual mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I personally felt that there was a lack of communication within the defence. There was no proper support. People were just keen on getting the ball off the opponent, which is not a bad mindset but everyone needs to focus on their own position and read the game and support the player which had just been beaten. I have learnt that after we started losing quite a bit. We started getting more rash and lost focus in what we were doing. In the next match, there definitely needs to be more communication to say who supports who and who to mark and who to take note off. Once we target out who is the good dribbler and who is the play maker, we need to focus more and try out best to prevent that person from getting too much time and space on the ball. As an individual, one needs to try and improve on the way i read the play. Be more confident in terms of whether to clear or control the ball first and then send a high ball or grounder to which ever player is open. I believe the team can improve more by having more confidence in each other and move the ball more efficiently . Communicate more with each other and just say who is to go where and we need to encourage each other more when the morale level is down. I believe that Darius did quite a good job in trying to keep the morale high when we were losing. He did well in trying to clear the ball and creating plays for the attack. Therefore, i think that Darius did quite a good job in defending!

  5. 1. Comment on your individual performance

Even though I did not play today, I found that being a sub can give good perspectives into the game.

    2. What have you learnt?

I have learnt that it is important not to ball-watch as it can cost us quite dearly. Also, I have learnt that it is essential to keep the spirits up as it can affect our performance quite badly.

    3. Comment on the team's performance

I honestly felt that the team did not play to its fullest potential as I noticed that there is always a lack of communication even from simple things such as going for the ball. There have been many instances where there have been two of our teammates going for the same ball. I only see a few of our players

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?

As a sub, I can keep the encouragement going for the team. As a player, I need to work on my handling and reflexes.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?

The team lacks discipline. I know it isn't exactly my position to comment on such things but honestly it is quite disturbing. As such, I feel that the team should devise a way to ensure that minor things like equipment or attire are kept in check.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?

Many players did not have the fighting spirit today and as such, I think no one is particularly deserving of this title.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
The performance today was horrible, as the team displayed little to no fighting spirt. There was no feeling of the team even wanting a win, and nobody today gave even 50% of their efforts. Our defense, after the first couple of goals, forgot all about formation and everyone had started to just group together and run as a team, thus many times the opponents were given space to take shots at our goal. The midfielders also did not run up the flank nor back into the defense, thus many times our defense was overall weaken, and when we did have possession of the ball there was no support.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I think from this I can see that I need to improve on speed, as the strikers were really fast. I should also work on my ball control, especially for high balls. I think I also need to improve on decision making when I should commit and when to contain.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
We need to work together in order to boost the team moral at all times. 1 guy cannot be the sole worker in order to boost the team's morals and make us push more to reach that winning attitude. I think we also need to improve on our set pieces too.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
Personally the team underperformed today. Even players that usually play really well (not naming anyone) practically gave up today. However, adil did perform really well today, as he put in alot of effort in order to pressure the opposing defense and try to get possession of the ball whenever he can.

  7. While I was beaten in terms of speed and skill at times, I felt that this match I did better in marking, I could read the ball better and when the ball is moving towards an attacker, I would put that extra effort of 1 or 2 steps to move ahead and steal the ball, and while at times the opponent manages to win it back after a lack of support on our side or just poor control, the important is we did our task, we won the ball back and we broke up their flow of play. We may be disappointed at not gaining full possession of the ball in the end, but at least we did something to reduce their chances of coming at goal, a small step is always a step ahead.

I had manage to support in attack a few times, I managed to win the ball in their half certain times and start an attack, however, in my opinion, our hastiness let us down a couple of times. However, I am disappointed in myself for causing the 3rd penalty in 3 consecutive matches, something I really need to stop happening.

I understand that people are tired, their fitness aren't good, but if we want to win, we want to get the ball back, we have to put pressure and go forward as one, there is always a big gab between attack and defense and it leaves a big hole in the centre allowing the opponent's midfield to do what they want.

As a team, we have to communicate, people are forming the wall too slowly, marking positions to slow, we have to be situationally aware of who's around us, who is the danger man what is my duty? These are essential questions we must ask ourselves for us to move forward. On the field, we are leaders of ourselves, we have to have the mental strength to persevere on, to continue fighting for what we want.

The team played badly today, and it's time with step up the gear, it's no more friendlies, it's the real thing, a last chance to prove to ourselves, who we really are

Because we want and we shall, we must and we will.

  8. I feel that I performed really badly for this match. I say this due to some mistakes that happened in the match. Firstly, my fitness. I was out of steam after about 20-30 minutes. In my opinion, the reason I ran out of energy so quickly is because I did not communicate well with my left back, making me be overdefensive. Therefore, I tried to run up and down too much, wasting energy. Another thing is how I dealt with aerial balls. My control today was appalling. I don't know why but I felt that I lacked the composure today for some reason.

I felt that the team today did not give in their 100%. We were lacking the fighting spirit in the match. But there were flashes of good passing from us which led to a few corners. There was also a lack of communication. There were times when many people for going for one person. Leaving the others open. Therefore, we should communicate more.

  9. 1) I would rate myself 5.3 in the first half and 6.3 in the second. This was a match that, imho, displayed true character from everyone, including myself. During the first half, I admit that I lost faith in the team after conceding 3 unnecessary goals. I changed my mindset in the second half and did my best to influence the team by encouraging everyone to spur on until the very last minute. Ball wise, my playmaking was horrible with most passes not being able to reach the wingers' feet. Apart from the 2 individual runs I had down the left flank, my dribbling was horrible and could not match up to the pace of Nan Hua's anchoring midfielders.

    2) I've learnt that in desperate times, people's true characters are revealed. The amount of leadership on the field was so minimal that I could only hear a couple of screams to get the defence organised during set pieces. Also, it is wiser to play a one-two than to take on player after player after player. It drains ones energy and does not guarantee a successful dribble, as compared to making a pass and running into space.

3/4/5) I felt that the team was lacking an inspiration from everywhere. Starting from the defence, no one really took charge. After the swap between Darius and ODS, the communication shrank and Sean was not able to give out commands. Apart from that, the defensive midfielders, again, had the same problem of not tracking back quick enough and preventing a long shot being executed. I take no glory in pinpointing such details and mistakes as I feel that my tracking back wasn't the best too. One last point I want to add, football is not about showing off. So what if we beat NUS High 1-4. So what if we can score from a freekick, dribble past defenders, shoot harder than Alex, make super saves. It doesn't matter how well you play; it matters how well the team plays.

    6) I feel that the MOTM should go to Adil. Adil was running up and down the pitch tirelessly, taking his chances at defenders and always wanting the ball. Also, I would like to praise ODS and Bryan. ODS had a slow start, but his heading abilities helped Niklaus cope with a lot of high balls and minimsed the threats down the centre. Bryan tried his very best to subdue the fast and agile right winger while being able to play the ball from left back and supported the attack at times.

  10. 1. Comment on your individual performance

I was really slow in the match. It took me 2 goals in to realise that I have to buck up and act. Other than that, I didn't have opportunities to tackle as much. I know it may be a bit absurd but I want to try to play Center Mid Defense in the next match if the problem is too much space in the center. I really hope I can get that role because I frankly believe I can do better there.

    2. What have you learnt?

I doubt I learnt anything this time.. It seems that we are repeating our mistakes and our weakness are still the same. There is no change in anything between this year and the last. Therefore, I didn't learn anything new.

    3. Comment on the team's performance

Well, there are a few flaws in the team. I'll explain more in 5). :O

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?

I don't think me as an individual will help anymore. I have tried staying positive in throughout the second half but it seems that I can't influence anyone.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?

Consistency and practicing what you preach. The following comments are not meant to offend anyone, I try to be as objective as possible.
Firstly, consistency. I realised that on the bus, when Tobias said we would win, we didn't have any reaction to him. I find that our winning spirit is weaken already. When the match started, the motivation on the field was easily half compared to the one against NUS. Even so, it went downhill. Coach said, "go into the field and act as if every minute was the last." (or sth like that), After the continuous attacks, we adapted to the mindset that every minute will lead to another minute. By the second half, I was smiling, not because of the result. When I heard Nik said, "are you happy?" (or sth like that), I wanted to reply saying, "At least I'm not sad". The point i'm bringing across is that, Its fine that we don't go in with 100%, if we can sustain that 99% for the whole match, we'll win overall."
Secondly, practicing what we preach. When we first started, I chose Darius as captain because I had to make a choice la, but also because I knew that he could lead. Today when he told me that he has lost his confidence, I didn't think much, but I know he needed a break from his pressure. I want him to know that we can help from whatever he is facing outside the field that caused the loss in confidence. This is not meant to be offensive but if you want something, pay the price :) Ball watching has been one of our biggest mistakes, Jia Le had said that many times. He also mentioned about positive attitude to bring to the match and return confident. On the field, I see little of it. There I am, he doesn't give out that positive aura anymore, when the ball is about 20m from him, he walked. Also, not offensive, but I think we should start changing.
There are other players who did the same mistakes, but I mentioned these players because they have a "higher" authority be it in school or our club and they should start acting like one. If there is any problems anyone face outside the field, talk it out to a friend. Don't go to the field with the emotions.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?

I was thinking of someone the whole match, the every minute, but more of most of the time. Elgin Patt. I remember he held a positive morale very match he goes into. I admire him for that spirit. Given a choice, I'd have voted him as vice capt when I was in sec 1, just because of his never changing attitude. ^^

  11. 1. Comment on your individual performance
Having played for the entire game. I could say that my performance today was utterly disgraceful. Out of the 7 goals conceded, I believe that I could have saved at least 3 of them. Furthermore, I realised that I wasn't really on my feet for the whole match.

    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt that confidence is an important aspect in football, along with making the right judgement at the right times. After the first few goals were conceded, in all honesty, I lost all confidence in myself. I was quite demoralised that I was unable to save 2 goals that I was actually able to. Following that, around 2 to 3 goals was caused due to me playing the ball dangerously, which was a case of bad judgement on my part.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
This was one of our worst games and I think that the standard we played with was comparable to our performance a year ago. I did not communicate effectively with my defense and our midfielders and strikers were unable to collaborate to create chances on goal.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
As I've said before, the best way I can help the team is by helping myself. I would have to train my agility and fitness so that I will be able to react more quickly and recover myself after diving. Furthermore, I should also train my sprinting as during a 1v1 situation, it is important that the goalkeeper knows when to dash out to stop the ball and also have the required amount of speed to successfully stop or clear the ball.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
As a team, I think we really need to work on our support play as a whole. I realised that when facing weaker teams, we tend to dribble a lot and not pass even if we can. Thus, when facing more aggressive and faster teams, we find ourselves unable to create play as we are under constant pressure. Hence, I think that we should brush up on our support play such as using the diamond or triangle concept taught during training more often during the match.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
If I had to choose one, I would pick ODS as I could tell that he was definitely putting in his best trying to stop the attack down his flank at all times. However, as covering was not really present, ODS was beaten quite easily on many occasions.

  12. Comment on your individual performance
I think that my performance today was not good at all. It was perhaps ok but definitely not up to the standards of true competition. I will rate myself a 4.5 on my performance due to the fact that I was so unstable with the ball and I could not anticipate their action and lead the defense to stop the players from shooting.
    What have you learnt?
Today I’ve learnt that constant motivation along with constant determination is utmost important in playing a competitive game.
    Comment on the team's performance
The team performance was not very ideal. The team spirit was not evident in the field. We started off alright, but when push comes to show. It crumbled and left us in a disorganized mess. We were not utilizing our players to back each other up. Even though it might be tiring to be running a lot. We still have to be determined in defending the opponents.
How can you as an individual help the team?
I think as an individual, I can help to keep the motivation of the team up. Also I can help to keep constant tabs on how the other players are doing and where they should be at to effectively defend.
How do you think the team can improve together?
The team can improve by having team spirit. To have team spirit is to back up one another regardless of attacking or defending. We have to motivate each other and not blame each other for their mistakes. Keeping the atmosphere positive and being focused.
Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I think Jia Le was rather good as he did run up and down the field to help the defense as well as the attacking.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1. I would say that again I underperformed, as I believe I was not up to standard as compared to the few friendlies late last year. I had very few chances at goal which I failed to fully make use of and I was not aggressive enough.
    2. I have learnt that building up an attack is really really important as without an attack, there will not be any goals, and without goals, it will either result in a draw or a defeat. In this case, it turned out to be a defeat.
    3. I would say that the team played horribly today. The defense were just giving the attackers too much of space to move the ball around, and they were not trying to commit when they had the right chances and like what coach said, there were too many ball watching. There were many players who did not try to chase the ball even though it was less than 2 metres away from them.
    4. I can help to try and convert every single chance or opportunity I get, as only with goals can we win a game. I can also try and help back with the defense more, as we cannot start an attack without ball possession.
    5. I think the team could really play better if the defense were to try harder to win the ball and to close opponents down far more quickly and more passes to the centre as there were many times where I was really open in the centre but the ball was dribbled through the right flank and we lost possession there.
    6. I would say Jia Le performed the best as he did his part as a midfielder and he tirelessly helped with the defense and the attack, and I can see his determination to gain possession for the team and build the attack quickly.

  14. 1. Comment on your individual performance
I think that I did not do well for the first half as I was not warmed up. I ran out of breath in the first few run. But when the second half started, I picked up my game as I was more aggressive in defending with bryan. but I did not communicate well with bryan, thus letting some crosses in.
    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt that communicating with the rest of the team in defense is also crucial. I let in quite a few crosses when bryan and I are not communicating. We did not cover well and did not mark the correct player
    3. Comment on the team's performance
I think that the team is not using possession to the maximum. We rush to attack every time we get the ball. Then, the team did not get enough time to move up as a whole. Thus we end up losing the ball as there is no support.
    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I think that I can try to support the player with the ball so that we do not waste possession, especially since we do not maximise the possession advantage.
    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
We should train on passing more as we cannot attack properly as proven by the match. our offence was not as strong as it should be. We could have attacked better.
    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I think that Jia le have performed the best out of us due to his commitment in the attack. He was dribbling and attacking and moving the ball up field which is what we need to attack although we didn't actually scored

  15. 1. Comment on your individual performance
I was very slow to close down on my opponents, and allowed shots on the goal. Overall, I think I played badly as I was not used to the grass field. I also did not warm up properly and it really affected my performance. I also did not communicate enough with ODS and Wen Kai to form a successful attack.
    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt that working as a team is very important. It is essential as not many of us have the skill to dribble past the whole of the other team. Passing is key to our win. Our opponents had the most possession of the ball and was allowed to control the game.
    3. Comment on the team's performance
I think the team did badly, compared to our previous matches. Defence was slow and communication was bad. Team morale was also low after the first goal. No one wanted to pass even if it was easy. Our team was individualistic.
    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I can help to anchor the midfield. This is important as I should be the one controlling the game. I should also be quick to close down my opponents before they manage to take a shot at the goal.
    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
The team can improve on passing. Its a basic skill that most of us still lack T_T
    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I think Dingshan played well as he was able to block most of the highball that niklaus was scared of. He also managed to block some good shots.

  16. I will be reflecting on my individual performance, and not the team performance. I was very lost and honestly not focused in the game. I was slow to react on many occasions and communicated much, much lesser than usual. I was very easily beaten and my confidence was trampled on throughout the game. As captain, my performance was simply horrendous, and I couldn't even bring myself to try to keep the team morale up due to the many mistakes I made. Even simple passes, simple things like approaching the ball, I messed up bad, and it led to our first conceded goal. To most other players, I might have seemed more like the kind of captain that was all talk not action, more of a manager than a player.

As captain, my job was not only to play my role in the team, but also to keep the team morale up and make sure that we still had that fighting spirit in us no matter the score. I had to make sure that everyone gave their best and we wouldn't leave the field being disappointed with our performance. I had failed that role yesterday, and was just another player out there. I may have been wearing the captain's armband, but all that was just for show. I was just another ornament, another player for the Nanhua players to beat. I was thoroughly disappointed with myself yesterday.

Tomorrow, I will do better. I won't try, but I will. Tanglin may be the strongest in our group, they may have the home crowd to their advantage, but we have nothing to lose. The pressure of the fans on the players might be an advantage to us instead. As long as we can all do our part, as long as we can work together as a team and replicate our brilliant performance against NUS last week, we will definitely not be ashamed of ourselves no matter what. As captain, I will stay positive and upbeat for the entire duration of the game, and I will do my part for the team. Never ever will I put my head down and sigh in despair, never ever will I be negative in my speech nor my body language. So let's work hard for the next game, and no matter what, we shall walk out of the field with our heads held high, no matter if the students at Tanglin were to insult or jeer us.

    Darius Low, Captain

  17. 1. Comment on your individual performance
During the time I played, I think that I did okay but it could be improved as I believe I could have had a stronger winning mentality towards the game.

    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt that we should be completely focused during the game as a slight mistake might lead to a goal and this might snowball to bad results.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
The team did poorly compared to the NUS match as there was little communication and the team was not performing well on the whole.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I can help the team by providing a stronger defense and closing on the opponents faster. Also, I can help by lifting the team's spirit when we are on the losing end by encouraging others and doing my best.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
I think that we should be more aggressive and more alert during the game.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
It would be Adil and Jia Le. They was calling for the ball tirelessly while most of the team were not performing.

  18. Comment on the team's performance

From what I observed, I think that the defense line was not communication well as there were a few good crosses and through passes that went pass the defense.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?

I can improve on my fitness and work on my dribbling and passing skills. I also need to work on my fast breaks as that is essential for a striker.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?

I think the team has to make sure that we encourage each other and not shout at each other as that can cause a tremendous difference when we have the will to fight on in a game.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?

Adil would be the man of the match as he was running back and forth for most of the game and he was helping out in the midfield as well

  19. 1. Comment on your individual performance
I was lethargic even before the match has started and was almost out of breathe by the time I finished a few dribbles. Need to have a proper meal and proper hydration before a match. I find that my dribbling has improved vastly and I managed to pull of some tricks that I've been practicing, Even though I dribble too much, I was only dispossessed 2 times throughout the whole game, following up with successful passes even tho it eventually led to nothing significant.

My crossing wasn't very good, and my shooting was off. I have to look up before I shoot or play a ball, which I keep forgetting to do. My composure also failed me as I should have controlled a missed clearance by the defenders with my chest instead of volleying it when the ball is at my chest level. Huge opportunity lost there.

    2. What have you learnt?
Stamina is really important. As I have the abilitiy to out-trick my opposite numbers, having enough stamina will ensure that I would be able to do so for the entire game instead of just short periods of times. With more stamina, I can also do my defensive duties. Many of a times I left the winger unmarked as I was too tired to track back, which led to a numerical disadvantage for our team.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
I feel that our defence has to be way tighter. The way the Nan Hua players cut inside of us is a basic mistake that should not be committed since Sec 1, and yet we replay the mistake thrice in a single match which led to a goal and many times before leading up to the goal. Our midfielders and defenders should also run back and hack down the ball when they lose it instead of just standing there and using eye power. We really shouldn't be overcommitting, which the defenders are doing in the match which led to them dribbling past them without putting in much of an effort. What happened to the 2 arm length rule? it's like non-existent in this match. And regarding last ditch tackles; none of them were made today. The center backs have to be aggressive when the opponents are only a few seconds from taking a shot. They are not even making any body contact with the attackers, letting them just shoot freely. There should be at least a careful sliding tackle made to intercept the ball and clear it away before a shot is made, which chances of it hitting are quite high as we are quite near the ball and the attackers won't be thinking about doing tricks and flicks to get around us when they have such a clear shooting opportunity.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
Make sure my body is in match-ready condition.

    5. Nobody really stood out today. A lot of us were in the wrong positions at the wrong time, and were idk either too tired or can't be bothered to track back and just smile like a fool when we are beaten. I thought Darius did well as he did not lose confidence when he made mistakes, and Matthias did fairly well even though he only played a couple of minutes.
