  1. 1. 6-7.
-Compared to the last match, was more in position, & communicated more with defense (esp. left def).
-Need to take high balls with header. Don't practice that much in training and cannot head the ball forward (in the match, even managing to catch the header, the ball still flew backwards)
-Yes and no. Yes, was the drill where you pass and run to another position (the diamond one). No, was the triangle (not used to forming a triangle with defense line - 2 midfields, could not form triangle within own domain). The rest, unobserved (scenario did not occur).
    3. No. Without a third midfielder, I have to comment that often, there is a whole on the far ends of the midfield-attack area once formation is broken
    2. ^Need to constantly get back into formation whenever possible.
    4. Train on HIGH BALL headers (perhaps include a drill for that during training?)
    5. Answered in 2.
    6. Hard to tell. A few were doing well (e.g. Mitchel,Darius, etc., Sean was not bad.)

  2. At the start of the match, I thought I would do badly. 2 months without any match practice, 3 weeks or so without any training. I probably would lose a large amount of muscle memory and match fitness. Yet when the match came and went, I didn't feel that I had any lack of exercise at all.

I supported the attack when needed and even produced a cross for a goal that was unfortunately later ruled offside

However, sloppy passing and the inability to support the play. Holes emerged, opponents tearing up the play and giving us problems. Yet, this was not the case in the first half, we were all lively and supported the play of our teammates and we actually didn't condede. What happened later on in the second half was probably due to the lack of fitness within the team.

I suppose the introduction of training again would greatly help, and of course implementing the diamond shaped high intensity pass and move drill would greatly help.

  3. I would rate my performance a 5 or 6. This is because even though I covered Wei Feng a couple of times , I was still very impatient in my defending. I would always commit myself every time I see a chance to tackle the opponent's striker. This led to the striker getting past me easily.
I think I have applied something I have learned during training , which is running back to cover after losing the ball , but other tactics like passing through the flank were not applied.
I think the team did not do really well. Firstly, I find that the team lacks stamina. During the second half of the game, the players were already tired. Secondly, I find the positioning of the players to be awkward/bad . After attacking and losing the ball to the opponents , the players either did not run back to cover or did not do it well. The opponents utilised the gap in between our players to attack and score. Thirdly, I find that the team's control of the ball is bad. For instance , when Wei Feng had the chance to clear the ball, he failed and ended up scoring an own goal by hitting the ball backwards and the ball when over Roger.
I think what the team could do together to improve is actually have a fitness session in addition to the two training sessions we already have as what Jia le has already suggested before the EOY examinations . But I know most players do not approve of this plan either because they are lazy or have a tight schedule. Another thing the team could do is actually practise out of training sessions, this is because we do not have a lot of time for Soccer CCA and if we train individually on our techniques and ball control , the two CCA sessions could be used for more tactics which could benefit us more.

    1. Hey Timothy, good analysis here. As you mentioned, fitness training requires good discipline and we'll be on the look out for players who are willing to go the extra mile. In the mean time, keep up the good work! (ps. are you joining the Delta League team?)

  4. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating
I rate myself around 6 for today, mainly because of the lack of ball time.

I thought I did well in terms of my positional sense when I played as a striker as I helped out in defence not unnecessarily like previous times. I also challenged for headers when practically nobody in the team did per se. When I played on the left, I was surprised that I was able to contain the defenders, which I thought I did pretty well as well. I marked my men, tracked back, make the necessary tackles etc. I also cut in and dribbled past a few players, and controlled the pace on the left relatively smoothly.

I feel that I should be more aware as when I played as the striker, I was in my own half instead of the opp. when a high ball was played. If I was in the latter I would obviously be able to outrun the seemingly slow defenders and latch onto the ball. Wasted opportunity. I should also learn to release the ball sooner and not hesitate when taking a shot.

I think I applied what I did in training to a certain extent as I was the only one in the team who registered shots from ongoing play (i.e not from set pieces). However, I realised my role as a midfield should be to run down the flanks, so I failed at that aspect.

    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
I learned that fitness is important. My fitness levels I can safely say is one of highest in the team. The defenders frankly were weak despite their large physique. I dislodged and disposses them with relative ease. This goes to show that if we work on our fitness we would be able to capitalise on nitty gritty mistakes made from time to time.

On the flip side however, our attack cannot progress if our physical levels are horrible. Many of a time I see people dribbling through a clear lane but ended up being pushed aside by the shoulder of a defender despite your bigger size. This goes against some odds of common sense and undoubtable logic.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?
I honestly think the team played really horrible today. I also disagree with the attitudes of some of the players. Their unwillingness to run and track back to their original positions is truly detrimental to our team shape and it's not helping that we're trailing.

    4. How can you help the team to improve?
To be honest I feel that I did almost the best I could, given that I only touched the ball twice during the whole of the second half due to the stubborness of some members of the team to keep playing via the right. I honestly have no idea why our keepers are kicking goal kicks after goal kicks to the right when our right players consistently proven themselves incapable of controlling the ball. I'm not blaming them. It could be a bad day. But I'm pretty sure common sense will tell you that if nothing is going right, go left.

    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
Fitness, and calmness. Many members of the team are just not calm enough to play soccer. Soccer is not a game where the person who whacks the ball the fastest wins.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
I don't think anybody played well enough to earn this accolade.

  5. During my short ten minute cameo, I felt that I have not performed up to standards to deserve even a rating. I was perhaps overwhelmed by the occasion and had allowed my pre-match doubts about myself to creep into my game. Other than being able to control a ball well during the match, there was no other positives; I was, at times, too slow when I receive the ball, i.e the opponents managed to snatch the ball off my feet moments after I got the ball. I was also unable to make pinpoint passes and the inability to help the team keep (and maintain) possession hurt the team ultimately, as we slumped to a 4-0 defeat.

I felt that I had many areas of improvement, particularly fitness wise and technique wise. The thing that bugs me even till now was that I am still not confident of running at the opponent with the ball, and that I am always looking for ambitious through balls that often end up in misplaced passes. Communication, too, was a key issue, as I found myself not calling for the ball even when I am in space and this affected the team play and the shape of the team. Defensively, I could have tackled harder with more conviction as my weak tackle allowed the attacker to continue to make his run towards our goalkeeper and force a cross which ultimately resulted in the 3rd goal conceded.

It was farcical that I had not put what I have learnt into the match, whether it is due to the lack of self-belief or for other reasons. With that said, I can (or should) work harder on my fitness, technique and team play, so that I can be more confident and composed on the ball. As for how the team can improve as a collective whole, it is up to us all to work on our individual strengths and weaknesses, though it will be easier said than done. The main glaring issue though, will still be fitness-wise without doubt.

    1. That is an honest appraisal Ming En! You gotta bulk up , plus look up a fitness regime that emphasizes on power and endurance. Hopefully more match exposure this holidays will help.

  6. 1. 7. I have been able to move towards the ball during defending and take on attackers aggressively. I can safely say that I have made a couple of good clearances and tackles throughout my short play time.

    2. I have learnt the importance of learning to take risks to play all out as a player, giving my best despite the amount of time I was allowed to play. When given the chance, I should try and dribble the ball around obstacles instead of immediately passing to better team members.

    3. The team has been lacking in their performance probably due to the recent examinations. Nevertheless, I certainly feel that the team possessed a much higher potential compared to the reduced performance I witnessed.

    4. The should really brush up on their skills learnt in practices and maintain absolute focus during the game. They should have more confidence with the team and not buckle under the pressure of others.

    5. Team members should learn to guide and help each other during training and matches, reminding themselves to make full use of the things they have learnt from drills and exercises.

    6. No one was clearly working up to their full potential to attain the rights to be the man of the match.

  7. 1. I would rate myself a 4. I can not think of anything I did well, besides calling out the running man from time to time on the flanks. I committed many fatal errors in the match, mis-controlling the ball during my 9 minutes of play. I would claim responsibility for one of the goals as because I pushed up too much on the right flank, allowing their winger to leak. The only thing that I applied from training was the chain passing. I had a good pass on one of the situations.

    2. As a spectator, I realized the team's shape has improved as compared to last time, as well as the communication. The team was able to get the ball up and mount the offense a few times while keeping their defence intact. As a player, I realised my control and ball-reading was lacking. I was unable to successfully tackle the opposing striker many times and this put pressure on the centre.

    3. Refer to 2.

    4. I can help the team to improve by improving my fitness as well as my ball-sense. I also require better control. I need to communicate the positions of enemy players more to the center defence.

    5. The team needs to know one another's playstyles more as well as provide more encouragement for each other while keeping its cool during critical moments.

    6. IMO, theres no MOTM for this match, even though many players did reasonably well in the game.

  8. I learnt that we need to improve greatly on our first touch. I noticed that many of our balls are lost through the first touch. For example many people has problems controlling aerial balls. The first touch might just go too far and by then the opponent would be able to steal the ball from us.The team did well as in there was a better sense of position. They is more trust within the people and therefore more passing. But they can improve by having a more sense of their surroundings and understand where to pass. Many people also need to be more confident with the ball. Knowing when is the time to pass and when is the time to beat the opponent. But not be too confident and not pass the ball at all. The keepers also need to work harder. During training i notice that there is not much effort put into their drills and stuff... I believe we can improve if the team is more bonded. To me i don't believe that everyone in the whole team is bonded. Therefore i believe that there is a need for more bonding time within the team itself. I don't believe there was a man of the match today... as it is quite hard to judge between the players. But in general i believe the team play of our team has improved by a lot.

  9. I would rate myself 6. I felt that this was one of my better games. I say this as I felt more composed. Whenever I got the ball, I took some time to look up for options and where to pass. I feel this is one aspect that I have greatly improved on since last year as I used to just kick the ball upfield without looking. But it wasn't all good.

My passing was poor in this match. Yeah, I could blame it on the rough pitch but we have to adapt to different conditions. If we use the basics, the pitch would not greatly affect it. Another thing that I feel I should improve on is being a bit more aggressive as I find myself being outmuscled quite a few times.

I don't think I utilised much of what I had learned in training as I feel that I did not have much playing time.

I learned that some of us sometimes take too long and too many touches to pass the ball. This lead to us losing the ball in our own halves many times, which then led to a few goal scoring opportunities for the opponent.

I felt that the team lacked some composure today as I see quite a few players just kicking the ball upfield without looking. What's the point of snatching the ball back from the opponent and then kicking it without looking, passing it back to the opponent. It defeats the purpose.

I feel that I can help the team by improving my passing. As I did lose the ball quite a few times. I sometimes got ahead of myself and looked up to pass without looking at the ball. I should look at it when I pass as the pitch was kind of uneven which may cause the ball to roll off.

I think the man of the match was Mitchel. He had the aggressiveness to challenge for the ball and had the composure to pick out a pass too. I observed that there was a difference in the midfield area before and after Mitchel was substituted. With all respect to the other defensive midfielders, I noticed that once Mitchel was subbed off, there wasn't this sense of aggressiveness in the midfield which every midfield needs for it to knick the ball from the opponent. This allowed more space for the opponent to work in as they were not closed down quickly enough.

  10. I would rate myself a 5 as I really did not manage to play very well throughout the whole time in which I was playing. I found myself not moving out from my line to close down the angle where the opponent can shoot. Also, I was out of position a few times, being too far right when the opponent was coming at me from the middle.

To improve, I feel that I need to work on my goal kicks as I found myself over relying on Bryan to start the play whenever I have to play a goal kick. If I were able to play the ball high, I would be able to play the ball over the front line and to other players waiting behind such as Jia Le and Wen Kai.

One more thing that can be pointed out, is that most of the team, including myself, have really got to work on their fitness. As Mr Tan has said, we are expected to play for 80 minutes at least. Thus, in order for us not to die half way through the match, we have to improve our stamina by going on more runs when they have free time. Of course, this ultimately comes down to self-discipline.

In general, the team has really improved over the months and we're definitely much stronger as compared to at the start of the year. Even then, there is still much room for improvement and we have to improve if we want to record our first ever win.

  11. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating
I would rate myself as of a 2. Even though I had many slip ups, I didn't mind of them and instead had a smaller sense of achievement on my part as a defender. During the match, I thought that my passive defending (no interaction with the opponent) has improved as I could feel where he would go next. I have made a few runs around the place, I thought it was alright, but was reprimanded for that. I have frankly no idea why not since matthais was behind me that time.

Did I apply what I have learned in training?
In training, we had more of passing drills, of course, it wasn't as effective as passing options are not there everytime. I find that if we were to train on our physical, it would not show huge improvements in our match in the start of next year. Even on one to one, other than a special sense of direction, I find that coach hasn't been placing enough emphasis on defending and that my defense has always been the same.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?
Well, based on that day, I thought they did a pretty good job at the start. However, there are loopholes in the center that we did not cover. I hope to see substitution of mid defense as its physically impossible for the two mid defense to be effective the whole 90 min. I doubt anyone could do it in the team.

    4. How can you help the team to improve?
I find that we could decide whether we are an offense team of defense team and get our mind set in. Its obvious that we do not have a similar view based on the 2nd half of that game.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
I thought that Sean was the man of the match. He had a bit of slip up, but he is great overall ^^

    I rate myself as 4
    What I do well today?
I think in a way i supported my other defenders and communicated
    What could have been better?
Definitely in passing the ball up front.
Did I apply what I have learned in training?
I did not in a sense that i waited before passing up to the front strickers
    If yes, how?

    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
I learnt that as a defender, you MUST NEVER dribble all the way up without support and without passing when there is the opportunity.
    3. Do you think the team did well today?
As a whole, it was not bad. Though certain player did not use what was learnt in training and also they were not able to maintain possession.
    4. How can you help the team to improve?
I reckon if we keep reminding the other players on what they should be doing. Also to speak up and communicate with the other players.
    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
Encouraging each other during the match. It can help to improve the team's game.
    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection
I think the MOTM is Sean. He really did a good job of trying to keep the ball out of the goal. He dived for every ball that was hurled at us and did a great job as a goalkeeper

  13. I would rate myself as a 1, as I played horribly that day. I barely called out to my teammates, and I was not alert during the match and often let the opponent strikes run into empty space to take shots at the goal. I was out of position most of the time when I was playing. I even let in one goal as I was not aware of where the ball was and in the end it rebounded of me into the goal. I could have prevented this goal if I had been more aware of my surroundings. I was also not very agressive during this match, thus I was pushed around by the opponents fairly easy as I did not put up much of a resistance. I also did not use the tactics that were taught during training. On a lighter tone, something good that could be witnessed was that the team was taking more chances at the goal.

Things to improve would be we need to improve our ball control, as there were times where we could control the ball properly and the opponents could easily get it and charge towards our goal. We should also practice more aggressive defending. We should also learn to applied what was taught during training.

Overall, the team barely performed up to standards during the match. However, the first half of the game was relatively well played. The team managed to communicate better, and we managed to hold possession for a good period of time. However, that being said, the second half was not very welled played.

Somethings we could improve on would be our fitness, as we can barely play for half a match before we get tired. As what mr tan said we should be able to play at least an 80mins games. Another point we could work on would be we should learn to keep an more positive attitude and support each other more often.

I think there is no MOTM this time, but the team has certainly come a long way from where we were the start of the year.

    1. I would rate myself 3 as i think i did not do very well this match. I think I made a lot of mistakes especially committing too early to therefore getting beaten easily by the person I am tackling. I also realized I had poor ball control probably from having little time practicing with the ball during the EOYs and therefore when it came to controlling it I realized I was not as used to it as before.
    2. I learnt while watching the team play is that it is important to ensure we know our positions well and cover each other while communicating. Most of the mistakes we made were because either 2 people went for the ball and this resulted in a hole in our defense because no one was left to cover it. This could have easily been avoided through communication and watching out where are team members are so we could cover the person who went in for the challenge rather than having 2 people run back to fill up the hole made.
    3. I think the team did do well in the first half but certainly not our best. We managed to take a few shots and one even made it into the goal although it was ruled offside. I think this is a good indication that we have already moved past defending and we are now ready to build on our offense as well, although I felt the defense started falling apart later into the game, which still shows we have room for improvement.
    4. I think I can start by brushing up my own basic skills such as ball control and challenging the opponents, as well as communicating with the players around me which I failed to do this game.
    5. I think we can learn to work as a team through basic tactics as well as communicating with each other especially for the attackers and the defenders as there are little communication between them. We should also learn to pass the ball more instead of holding onto it and trying to dribble our way through when there are clearly teammates at better positions than us to receiver the ball and bring it forward.
    6. I think there was no MOTM this game although there were certain players which worked very hard this game such as Jia Le, Mitchel and Bryan from what I saw and their effort really held the team together through the game.

  15. 1) I would rate myself 5.8. In this match, my expectations for the team and myself were relatively high. Even though we only had one official training before this match and after EOYs, I expected our defending to be tight and our mentality to improve from previous matches. I cannot entirely attribute this loss to the uneven pitch that we were not used to. We have to adapt to situations like this; reaction time has to be much faster. Thus, my contributions to the team for this match was not as significant as I expected to have.

    2) I've learnt that we need to cover loopholes as soon as possible especially when the opponent plays at a very high tempo. They will be chasing the ball quickly, passing and moving up front and exploiting our physical limitations (speed and stamina). Also, we need to be positives and optimists, but not to the point it becomes delusional. If you can't be a positive, don't be a negative.

    3) The team did well in certain areas, but horribly in others. In the first half, there were some attempts on goal and the intention was to win. However, we simply ran out of steam and neglected our roles in the closing moments of the first half. We picked up where we left and true enough, when the subs came in, our already deformed formation went bonkers and we played like primary school kids.

    4) Endurance, Stamina, Control. We need to be mentality and physically prepared. Before a match, during the bus ride, is all we do laugh and joke around? Do we not talk about how we want to play our game, how we want to achieve our victory?

    5) Bonding. We need to know the different playing styles of our partners (defensive mid, centre halves, strike etc.)

    6) I would like to praise Tobias and Matthew for their performance in their respective halves/positions. They added the extra firepower and enthusiasm that the Sec 3s lack.

    1. 5. I managed to help the defence and did a couple a good decisions however I could not last throughout the game due to my stamina.
    2. I learned that we have to communicate as a team and play smart in order to win.
    3. No, our team collapsed past the second half.
    4. Work our my stamina and pass with accuracy.
    5. We should communicate more and improve on our fitness.
    6. I did not really observe one.

  17. 1. Rate your performance today from 1 to 10 and justify your rating.
I feel I should get a 7 at least for my performance. For that short 9 minutes in which I played, although 2 goals were let in, I feel it was not my fault entirely. Yes, I should be partly blamed for the third goal let in due to my poor positioning, but I feel I more than made up for it with the pressure I put on their offense, resulting in them not being able to shoot, as well as my covering for my defenders when they went for the tackle.

    2. What did you learn as a player/spectator from the match today?
As a player on the pitch, I learnt that our fitness as a team has to be consistent. We cannot have the offense being less or more fit than the defense and vice versa. This is to ensure that our team can function despite how much each player has played. Substitues put in during the match should also not be walking for that period in which they are substituted in.

As a spectator on the sidelines, I learnt that sometimes, calling for the ball may not be the wisest thing to do, as, the player with the ball currently may have been able to make the pass. But when an attacker is screaming for the ball and pressurizing the player currently possessing the ball, he would falter. And after this player has faltered and lost the ball, the attacker should not remain upfield and instead should try to help with the midfields if needed, instead of blaming the player who had just lost the ball.

    3. Do you think the team did well today?
In general, we could have done better. As mentioned in the above few points, fitness was one thing that brought our team down. Another is the lack of team spirit in some players.

    4. How can you help the team to improve?
I feel that I should adapt to become more confident with the ball so as to not lose it in a critical area such as the penalty box. I feel that my fear of losing the ball causes me to falter often and that always results in the opponents getting a shot off. Whether or not the shot goes in, I have already affected the team's morale by losing the ball and without fitness or skills to rely on, our team relies largely on our morale.

    5. What do you think the team can do together to improve?
I feel that the team can work on team bonding or building up team spirit so we encourage one another on the pitch rather than blame and discourage each other after a mistake has been made. With team spirit, I feel that our morale would be boosted slightly if not a lot and it will greatly aid us in playing better.

    6. Who do you think is the man of the match today and justify your selection.
I would say Matthew is the MOTM for this match. In previous matches, regardless with other schools or amongst ourselves during trainings, Matthew has been one to give up on repossessing the ball after he loses it. It has been something that always brought down his general level of play, but this did not happen during this match. Instead of being the unfocused and somewhat 'blur' Matthew, he was playing very with a lot of focus and perseverance. Though he made a few mistakes, as he always did, instead of giving up and leaving the other players to fight for the ball, Matthew attempted to fight back for the ball and even got it back on one or two occasions.
