  1. 1. 8. Better with positions today compared to previous match, out of formation. Slightly better communication with defense, and kept well to the defense formation today.
    2. Communication may be key, but so must situational awareness & logic. Observed occasions where people would stray too far from our defense line (both laterally & longitudinally), even without possession of the ball & enemy closing in on goal. Conversely, when SST was in possession of the ball, some players may forget to spread out.
    3. Rather well done on the skills and communication on their area of the field (e.g. defense line). However, communication with other areas (e.g. midfield, attacking lines) was terrible. There was noticeably MANY times where the opponent dominated an entire area within defense & midfield (midfield need to push back quickly, defense also must push up when necessary). Furthermore, players rarely came in to contest for occupation with NUS HS, leaving a constant area of play within the centre of the field for the opponent.
    4. Being in the defense line, I see all and know all. As such, communication must be constantly passed to the midfield line so as not to create a gap between the lines that would culminate in opportunities for the opponent to take potshots at the goal.
    5. The team must learn to move as one. Or the above (no. 4) would occur. Also, the team needs to be constantly aware of their surroundings. Though I mentioned earlier that communication in areas were good, when balls began to be traded back and forth, many people lost their formation. Also, substitutes need to know and stick to the formation assigned to them.
    6. I think the defense did quite well generally, as there was communication in the line, and constant re-positioning to fit the situation.

  2. I feel I did fairly well in today's game. While I could probably mentioned that a high ball came to me once and I failed to control it, the remaining high balls I placed enough pressure to get the ball back soon enough and the opponent made no threat to goal at all. Saying that, I believe the team has also done well in the 1st and 2nd third to place pressure and there were good in going forward, looking for areas where the ball could go through the defence. However, our finishing let us down. I'm pretty glad that compared to our first match with NUS High earlier in the year, we did fairly well as we were able to intercept more balls and reduce the crosses. Something that proved that we have improved. Saying that, one important aspect that needs improvement is our attitude. Some players at the sign of their teammates making mistakes began to scold that player. I believe as a team, we are here to attack and defend as one. If one player makes a mistake, he feels bad enough already, we as teammates should encourage him and not make him feel worse. Afterall, we are playing for our school and we don't want to look back. Returning to the game play, NUS High had lots of chances from counter attacks and we were fortunate that our defence managed to cope well without the attackers at that few moments. During a counter attack, one could see the difference in gap between the attackers' and defence, a big hole that could maybe cover 20m, lots of space for them to exploit, definitely not good for us. I'm not sure whether that's a fitness problem, or just one lapse in concentration in the game after a missed attempt, but something we have to take note in future. Above all, I would like to commend the team for their valuable effort, we may not have won, but the sweat said it all. Now let's focus on improving for the future.

  3. 1. Comment on your individual performance
I remembered what the coach had taught and applied it in the game. Unfortunately, i was lacking in the agility department and this has costed us dearly. Alternately, i could have been better in displacing the ball ahead to the other players. So an overall of 6 for my performance
    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt to NEVER get the strikers to go to the center. Also it is essential to keep every opponent guarded during a corner kick .
    3. Comment on the team's performance
The performance for the first half was great to a certain extent. There was a constant effort to block off the opponents when they went into our half. We all worked together to form a great defense. The attacking had some good attempts as well. Unfortunately as the game progresses, the lack of experience of certain players caused our downfall. It is true that your team is only as strong as your weakest link. It really showed the importance of ensuring that we as a player must be fit to ensure the team can be strong.
    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
I think i can help by commanding the defences and organise the defending mids to their respective locations.
    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
The team definitely need to understand that we all NEED to improve our skills and our basic physical skills to play well.
    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I would say no one really made the team stand out. We did have our flaws, but i would say the attacking team in the first half did a great job and a good improvement.

  4. 1) I would rate myself 7.8. In this match, I find myself much more dedicated and focused on where I'm supposed to be and what I'm supposed to do. This helped me sort out my priorities as a winger or attacking midfield during the first period. I felt that I did not let the team down in this match, although I should have finish those few chances I had. My partnership with Wen Kai upfront has improved a lot as I find myself picking out his runs and playing a through ball to him. Also, I was more confident on the ball and dared to play one-twos without hesitation and pass defenders.

    2) I've learnt that we have to think, move and perform as one. No matter what position you play, when we do not have possession of the ball, all of us are defending. As strikers/attackers, we are the first line of defence. We have to pressure the ball and force them to fumble a little or at least misplace a pass. As midfielders, we have to cover whenever a defender is out of position and be behind the ball. As defenders, it is important to keep the shape and communicate, covering whoever's challenging the ball. As keepers, we have the vision to command our outfield players on whether they're out of position or someone needs support in attack/defence.

3/4/5) The team did well is defending as a whole and putting pressure on the ball during the first two periods. We even created lots of chances as we patiently brought the ball upfield. Wen Kai took lots of chances, the defence was compact and there were much more active communication. I was very pleased to see that as vice captain of this team. We made a significant improvement since the start of the year, and we deserve to be praised for that. However, having said that, it is very obvious that the vast difference between the first and second team in our squad do not do the entire team justice. In just 30 mins, 5 unnecessary goals were conceded and the match ended in a trashing. We need to stop thinking about ourselves and learn to think about the team and the jersey we're wearing. Do we only train when we're asked to? Where is the passion in the sport? Where is the drive to win? Do we waste 2 hours every Monday and Friday 'trying' to reach 10 juggles or do we fully utilise it by training on our own so that we can move on to the next exercise? I myself am very passionate about soccer, and I want to help this team achieve our first win. Therefore, I spent more time not only on the ball, but also my physical attributes. I realised how 'slow' I was during Coach's agility training. My footwork was not up to standard and I wanted to change that. Thus, I have been training consistently on my footwork even though I didn't have whatever equipment Coach used. But that didn't stop me, and it shouldn't stop you either. One may complain the lack of resources, but if one has the time to complain, one also has the time to find them. Don't think you can keep your first team spot just because you're the only person who is suited to fill that role in front of others. The Sec 2s are catching up, and overtaking most of the Sec 3s. Therefore, I urge all of you to start before it's too late. Follow whatever Coach instructed us to do during the 3 weeks break, or even more. If you know you're weak at something, work on it. No point working on it just for the sake of it.

    6) I feel that the MOTM should go to Tobias. He added lots of enthusiasm and energy into the midfield, supporting the attack frequently and tracking back as soon as we lose possession. This is not about how fit he is; it's about his willpower to help lift the team. I would also like to praise Wen Kai as he dared to take lots of chances in front of goal and was making endless runs into the box. Even though he couldn't convert any of them, his attitude to keep going and keep trying deserves credit and recognition.

  5. 1. Comment on your individual performance
I would rate myself a 7 as I felt that I was able to take the initiative more often in challenging the ball. Following what coach has taught me, I tried to come out to receive the high ball when we conceded a corner kick. I found myself getting the ball twice which was something I felt really good about.

    2. What have you learnt?
I learnt that as a goalkeeper, I need to exert my dominance within the penalty box. It is up to me to command my defense and if the defense fails, it is also my fault. I need to be more agile in moving for the ball as I know that I was flat footed for most of the match, which led to 2 silly goals conceded by me even though I could have easily saved them if I was alert and ready to react.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
Overall, the team performed very well in this match as we were able to constantly push the opponent back with our attacks. For a good portion of the match, we actually had the opponent midfielders rushing back into their own half. Our team took many chances on goal. There were many good chances created by our midfielders through passes from the flanks and I felt that we did well on that area. I would like to praise our defense for this match as I could see them really chasing after the ball relentlessly after they have lost it. This gave the opponents minimal time to react.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
After all, even though a team might have strong players, it depends heavily on the goalkeeper to ensure that the team is able to maintain a clean sheet. I for one have to work on my fitness and agility as I need to be able to make those far corner dives and react more quickly. I must also practice my goal kicks and drop kicks as this will allow me to play the ball far up to our waiting strikers instead of relying solely on passing to my wingers to start the play.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
I think the team can only improve if everyone decides that they want and need to improve. As it is said, the speed at which the team can move forward is not determined by the fastest or fittest player, but by the weakest and slowest player. Thus, everyone must have the commitment and dedication to improve themselves, whether it is in the area of agility or stamina, every small step counts.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I personally thought that Wen Kai played very well today as he really pressured the opponent defense a lot. Many times, the ball was played forward to Wen Kai who more often then not, would take a shot on goal. Following coach's advice, it is good that Wen Kai took the chances that he had at scoring. Some attempts were even very close to scoring. Also to add on, I feel that the whole team should be praised today as I feel that we have played very well and have definitely come a long way since the start of this year. We have grown stronger, but there is definitely still room for improvement.

  6. Following reflection more applicable to 1st and 2nd period.

    1. Comment on your individual performance
If a rating was required I would have rate myself a 7.5? I feel that I had too many chances which would have been converted (into goals) if I had a little more composure. For example, I got pass the RB of their team, but I attempted to took a shot from quite a far distance. Even though the accuracy was not that off, I panicked when I saw the CB closing me down. Considering the literal weakness of their defence, I should have dribbled prior to shooting. There was also another chance where Jia Le played a one-two to me, which the ball landed on my left foot. I contemplated to take a first time shot, but during training it never ever works, so I cut back the ball but messed up my footing and shot with my outside right foot, which curls the ball away from the goal. I should have more composure and realise that the defenders gave me space to drag the ball backwards more to take a shot with my right foot. I also had another shot where I dribbled away from the goal, turned around and shot, but it ended up into the goalkeeper's hands. If I looked down and shifted the ball slightly to the right before shooting that would no qualms ended up in the net.

    2. What have you learnt?
I have learned that stamina is really essential because there were some parts of the match where I just didn't have the energy to track back and defend, leaving the defenders to do extra work. It is also very important to have composure, which importance should be highlighted in (1). Communication is also crucial as my teammates would be able to know when and where to pass the ball.

    3. Comment on the team's performance
I feel that the defence improved a lot. I see covering, communication and confidence on the right side, but not so much on the left though. I feel that the defensive midfielders should learn to track back and not just stand there when we lose the ball. I also feel that JQ really need to improve on his speed because there were two chances in the first third where I threaded through balls to him, and even though he was way in front of the last defender, the latter managed to catch up with him. I also feel that Matthias needs to pass and dribble at the right places and at the right time. He hesitates too much, so when he is open, he doesn't shoot, doesn't pass, doesn't dribble, and ended up messing up his footing and getting dispossess. He also needs to learn when to track back to defend. Other than that, I think our team structure is getting there and getting better.

    4. How can you as an individual help the team?
Work on my composure and fitness. I also learned from coach that I should stay in line with the ball so there'll be a better chance I'll be able to latch onto a lob pass or through ball.

    5. How do you think the team can improve together?
Our fitness and attitude. In the third quarter, I can hardly see any competency, any urgency etc. The players were also relatively weak in stamina and were all over the place. If we improve on these two, we would have better chances of winning a full match because the First XI will not be able to finish the game and it's only fair for the second team players to fulfill their responsibility of filling their shoes and play even better than the First XI.

    6. Who do you think were outstanding in their performance today? What made them stand out?
I thought Tobias was excellent, but if he played like this in other matches, I doubt he'll be afforded such luxurious space to dribble to. Elgin Patt improved a lot in his positional sense, and I thought Elgin Low did well in communicating with me when I was on as a defender in the final period. ODS was a little bit rush and really did not look like a defender, but offensive-wise I felt he did a nice job. Niklaus was a steady presence in that match.

    1) I feel that in this match, i was not as good as being a defender. I would like to show how i felt on that day. I was alright being a sub, however, when I got in, I was pumped up and was ready to gave as much as I could. However, as the match got on, I got discouraged and the motivation died out, perhaps that was why I allowed a 1v1 of sean and the opponent. On the other hand, I'm not sure about how I did on offense. I did try to pass, but I had some judging before I decided to dribble instead.
    2) I have learnt that in a defense field, it was important to cover up for each other. I think I had felt some sparks of teamwork between me, darius and tobias as we covered each other pretty well to retrieve the ball from the opponent. However, I need to learn about making teamwork on the offense. I thought that matthais was too confused that he didn't really had some thoughts about what he should be doing.
    3) I'm felt that the offense and the defense didn't had a great teamwork and instead, other than tobias, i would think that we are two teams instead of one.
    4) Perhaps, I need to be more motivated in my field and judge better. of course, I will need to have a better sense of the ball where i can dribble better such that I will not lose the ball while looking for more options to pass.
    5) I think that since our offense and defense are like two teams, we should learn to get more compact. Also, I agree to wen kai that we need to improve our physical form to at least last a long time where we can complete the game easily. I thought that the bench players, have to add more into their training to be able to take on positions where the first team players are not able to participate due to different reasons like MC or such. Also, we will need to improve our first touch and there might be something that is to my concern. I feel that the goal keeper training is a bit more relaxed than it should be.
    6) I thought that tobias was shining this time. He had good tackles and was commited to chasing after the ball.

  8. 1. 7. As I was playing in the first team, I had big shoes to fill, in the case of being the right back. I felt that I did okay, besides my misread which let the striker turn and get a shot at goal. I made a few good tackles which stopped a few attacks down the flank. I felt that I communicated better than the last match, but was faltering towards to the end due to my fitness.

    2. From this match, I have learnt that every individual has a part to play, whether in attack or defense. In all circumstances, it was important to have called out the positions of the enemy players such that there would be adequate time for them to react. Therefore communication between team members is very important.

    3. In the match itself, there was (imo) lesser communication than the previous matches.

    4. I need to improve on my first touch, and my confidence in holding the ball, or I would only be dragging the team down by making the right flank weaker.

    5. As a team, we need to work on ourselves first, the physical strength and presence. Our team has to work more as a single unit, instead of what ODS mentioned, as two separate units. Therefore we need to move together and focus more on our shape and fitness level, which allows us to last longer in game.

    6. In my opinion, there were a few players in the offense that were having a good game. In this game, there was much more attacking force shown from the team. Tobias especially made nice runs down the flank and put pressure on the enemy back flanks.

I think i have done 6/10. I was more confident with the ball than other matches but still has not shown my full potential. I keep wanting to attack but since tobias was upfront, I had to stay at the back. I showed little aggression but managed to tackle quite a few although my positioning was not very good. Overall I should have done much better but since I didn't make many mistakes, I think I did good enough to contribute to the team

I have learnt that as a player I have to be more in the zone. I was not going with my instinct at the second third. I was thinking through the game which made me unsure of what to do and very soft with my tackle. in the last third, I learnt that being a more instinctive and aggressive player is not enough. I was not communicating with the players until the last few minutes where, because of that, we managed to get the ball upfront but there was very little time and we just did not have speed which brings me to the last thing I've learnt which is that a player must be fit. My physicals were weak and that had to be more aggressive which I tried to be in the last third.

I think that the team is divided into three teams instead of being one team. the first was the defense which consisted of 6 players (+1 keeper), the flanks which consisted of 2 players and the attack which consisted of the other two players. The team only had the flanks to support the attack. I think this was because we were playing to fast. The pace made it easier for the opponent to steal and thus more should stay in the defense, thus only the fast flanks can attack and the cycle continues.

I think that I can improve myself by improving my fitness. I am planning to move into a condo so there would be a gym which I am planning to go to twice a week to train on my fitness. Another thing I need to improve is my confidence. I was scared to hold the ball that when I have the ball, I instantly pass it to someone else. I think I have the skills to move forward but just dont have the courage to do so. This can only be improved in matches so I will be more thirsty for the ball in the next few matches.

I think that If we can move more slowly as a team in the attack, we can improve. Most of us know how to pass and how to go to free space but every time the attack just rush forward. So, if we can just move as a team, I think we will be more successful in the attack

I think the best player was tobias. we was committed to the game and was full of energy to manage running forward to attack and falling back in quick pace to help the defense and he did help the defense by a bunch. I think that his stamina and commitment contributed to his performance
